Some Home Cooking for your dogs

I found these receipes in a Canine Cookbook compiled by The Tasmanian Golden Retriever Club :-

GOURMET BISCUITS

  • 500 gms cooken chicken

  • 2-1/2 cups white flour

  • 1 cup quaker oats

  • 3 stock cubes, meat or chicken flavored

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 eggs, beaten

Preheat oven to 180oC.  Grease three cookie sheets and set aside. Fineluy chop the chicken, or run through a blender briefly. In a large bowl, mix the flour and oats, crumble in the bouillon subes; add eggs and the chopped chicken. Stir in enough water to make a firm but sligtly sticky dough. Spread evenly on the cookie sheets, about 1/2" ticken.  Dip a small dog-cookie cutter in flour before cutting out each  portion (or use the floured rim of a glass).  Bake for one hour, and cool before serving.  Store in the refrigerator - can be kept for up to two weeks.

BAIT SNACKS

  • 1/2 cup powdered dry milk

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 kg liver, chopped

  • 1/2 cup wheat germ

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 cup corn meal

  • 1 cup plain flour

Liquefy liver and water in food processor.  Pour into a mixing bowl and add all the other ingredients.  Mix well and pour onto greased non stick baking sheet.  Spread evenly.  Bake at 180oC for 30 minutes.  Cut quickly into squares while hot (or use cookie cutter).

Store in the freezer.

Variation:  You can substitute 1/2 cup peanut butter instead of the liver and garlic.

VEGGIE ROLLS

  • 2-1/2 cup white flour

  • 1/2 cup wheat flour

  • 1 tsp olive oil

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 cup grated carrots

  • 1/2 cup minced spinach

  • 3/4 cup water

Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl, and then mix in the oil, egg, carrots and spinach.  Knead by hand for several minutes, and then form into walnut-shaped rounds,  Flatten the rounds, and prick the center of each round with a fork.  Bake for about 45 minutes in a 175oC oven, and then cool completely before serving to your canine.

FROSTY PAWS

  • 1kg vanilla yoghurt

  • 1 mashed banana (or any large jar of baby fruit)

  • tblsp peanut butter

  • tblsp honey

Blend all of the ingredients together and freeze in either small paper cups or ice cub trays.  Microwave just a couple of seconds to thaw and remove from paper cups before serving, making sure the treats are not hot.
